Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC)

Jakarta, 23-26 May 2016

Indonesia became the host of the 16th Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime held at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta. Officially opened by the Chief of Indonesian Police, General Badrodin Haiti, the meeting was attended by more than 190 delegates from 10 ASEAN member countries and 10 dialogue partners including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the European Union, Canada, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation in combating transnational crime by improving security of the borders in the ASEAN region from crimes such as terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, people smuggling, illegal trafficking of drugs, arms smuggling, sea piracy, illegal f ishing, illegal goods, and trafficking in wildlife and timber. This year is the first year of "ASEAN Community" which consists of three pillars, namely, ASEAN Political Security Community, Economic Community and Social Cultural Community.
